Guangdong Ocean University strives for excellence in teaching, a strong interdisciplinary approach, and academic programs that are responsive to contemporary needs. Thinking about becoming a GDOU student? You will find GDOU to be a friendly place that provides real-life learning experiences with great teachers involved in scientific research particularly on ocean sciences, fishery, foodstuff technology, agriculture, economy, etc. Here's where you can find all about the application and admission.
- After you have decided to study at GDOU, you will have to choose what to study depending on your academic goal and our programs and admission requirements.
- If you intend to learn the Chinese language and culture, you can apply directly to the GDOU Foreign Affairs Office (FAO) for a language student status.
- If you are to study for a bachelor's or master's degree, you need to know what faculty you want to enter before applying for admission. You must select a faculty when you apply and you may have to select an academic program.
- Review the Undergraduate Programs or Graduate Programs in About GDOU on our website. Get some academic advice from FAO if you are still trying to determine your academic goal.
- Chinese Studies Programs
Applicants to GDOU for a Chinese Studies program should be healthy, friendly, and mature, with no unfavorable records. In principle, no special academic education is required. Applicants for an undergraduate or graduate program are supposed to complete the language program before commencing the academic program if their Chinese proficiency is not up to the standards for their academic studies.
- Undergraduate (Bachelor) Programs
- All programs require senior high school completion for admission; only academic (university preparatory) high school courses are acceptable for admission.
- All programs require four years of study
- Since Chinese is the language of instruction at Guangdong Ocean University, candidates must be able to communicate competently in Chinese both orally and in writing, and students whose first language is not Chinese, may be required to present the result of the HSK, Band 3.
- GDOU provides opportunities for students who do not meet the Chinese proficiency requirements. Completion of the full-time, non-credit Chinese for University Purposes (CUP) program allows students to gain Chinese language proficiency before starting their degree program. Applicants may be given admission based on successful completion of GDOU Chinese for University Purposes program.
- Documents required to support your application for admission includes
- All official transcripts
- A copy of high school diploma
- HSK score, if Chinese was not the language of instruction in your previous academic program, to be sent directly from the Department of Testing Affairs (HSK) under the Office of Chinese Language Council International

Note # 1: A resume (outline work experience, extra-curricular activities, academic honors and activities since last year of study) is also required if are not currently in school.
Note # 2: All official mid-year or final university or college transcripts are required if you are applying from another university or college.
Note # 3: All official transcripts for studies completed, cover letter (if applying from academic dismissal) and resume are required if you are applying as a mature student.
- Graduate (Master) Programs
- The minimum university admission requirement is an Honors degree or its equivalent in the subject to be studied (i.e. a four-year bachelor's degree from an approved university). Candidates possessing a major in a field other than that of their graduate program will be required to take sufficient undergraduate courses to make up the equivalent of a GDOU undergraduate major in the field of graduate work.
- All university transcripts should be original official documents and should be provided to you in sealed envelopes or sent directly to us from the issuing institutions. If it is not possible for the institution to produce another official transcript, you can make a copy of the original transcript and have your institution certify that the document is an accurate copy. The certified copy should then be provided to you in a sealed envelope or sent directly to us from the issuing institution. If your transcript must be translated into Chinese or English and your institution does not provide translated documents, your transcript can be translated elsewhere and then brought back to your institution to be certified as an accurate copy. The certified translated copy should then be provided to you in a sealed envelope or sent directly to us from the issuing institution.
- Since Chinese is the primary language of instruction at GDOU, all applicants must possess adequate knowledge of written and spoken Chinese as a prerequisite to admission. Regardless of country of origin or citizenship status, candidates will be required to demonstrate proficiency in the Chinese language, and students whose first language is not Chinese, may be required to present the result of the HSK, Band 6.
