The Department of Atmospheric Sciences boasts two esteemed majors: "Atmospheric Sciences" and "Applied Meteorology", both of which are renowned for their academic excellence and practical relevance.
The Atmospheric Sciences major is recognized as a first-class undergraduate program construction site in Guangdong Province, a comprehensive reform pilot major in Guangdong, and an excellent talent training program for marine meteorology in Guangdong. This major offers three specialized tracks:
Weather Dynamics Track
Educational Objectives: To cultivate well-rounded professionals who meet the needs of socialist modernization, embodying comprehensive development in morality, intelligence, physique, aesthetics, and labor. These professionals will possess a solid foundation in mathematics, physics, English, and computer science, along with systematic knowledge and practical skills in atmospheric dynamics and meteorological prediction. They will be capable of working in fields such as weather forecasting, climate and climate change, meteorological integrated observation, and meteorological information technology, engaging in atmospheric sounding, weather forecasting, research, teaching, technological development, and related management tasks.

These professionals will systematically master the basic theories and practical skills of atmospheric sounding, meteorological forecasting, physical oceanography, marine survey, and atmospheric-ocean data analysis. They will be scientifically literate, innovative, and practically skilled, capable of working in marine meteorological monitoring, marine meteorological forecasting, and atmospheric sounding, engaging in basic operations, teaching, research, management, and technical tasks.
